The United States played a big role in the Cold War. Their main goal was to contain the spread of Communism and continue the spread of democracy. They had many allies around the world including the NATO nations: The UK, France, West Germany, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Iceland, Luxembourg, Norway, and Canada. More allies included Japan, South Korea, South Vietnam, New Zealand and a few others. New Zealan wanted to remain nuetral, but ended up leaning towards the Americans. During this time the Americans were involved in the fighting in the Korean war, aiding the war in China, and fighting in the Vietnam war. They fought hard for democracy and did their best containing comunist countries.
